Join Senator JimMarzilli for 2nd Annual Park Serve Day at Alewife Brook Reservation on May 17th

Senator Jim Marzilli (D-Arlington) invites all Arlington residents to join him and a team of volunteers on Saturday, May 17, 2008 for Park Serve Day at the Alewife Brook Reservation.

During this statewide day of volunteer service, people from across the Commonwealth will work together to get parks and beaches around Massachusetts ready for the summer by clearing trails, planting flowers, clearing coastlines, painting picnic tables, and much more. The Alewife Brook Reservation is one of 50 state parks participating in this year's event.

"The first Park Serve Day proved to be a tremendous success. People from around the state came together and volunteered at their local parks," said Senator Marzilli. "The Alewife Brook Reservation is an important part of the community providing open space for area residents to hike, run, and bike. I'm looking forward to helping to get the Alewife Brook Reservation ready for summer and I hope many of my fellow Arlington residents are able to join me."

This year is the second annual statewide Park Serve Day. Last year over 1300 volunteers gave their time at parks and beaches across the Commonwealth. A total of 580 trees and flowers were planted, 48.6 tons of trash was removed, and important building maintenance and trail projects were completed.
